God truly blessed me on Sunday, May 18th as I ate lunch with friends. I happened to look over to see a man of a very large stature feeding a petite woman. He had his arm around her and he carefully spoon fed her. I was so taken by this sight because I saw the most amazing love that one could have for another. The man would feed her, wipe her mouth and kiss her on the forehead. The woman had no expression most of the time and then she seemed to cry and I felt their loss. I shared with my friends of what I was witnessing and how I needed to speak with the man. I was honored to meet George and Phyllis and would like to share my brief conversation with George.
George was born in 1918, a very tall handsome man with beautiful blue eyes. During World War II, he was a pilot and needed medical care and Phyllis was his nurse. She cared for him and after the war, he went back for her. They have four children, who are in the medical field, and he proudly told me about them and their grandchildren. He shared with me about Phylis being full blooded Italian and her blonde hair was natural, she spoke four languages and that he has cared for her for eight years. I looked at Phylis and she looked to be about 60, she had the most beautiful flawless complexion and she was quite calm, I hoped that she heard how tenderly her husband spoke of her. Tears ran down George’s and my face and I thanked him for the gift that I received by being in their presence. I noticed how he wore his pilot wings on his shirt and asked him about them and he proudly told me about his career as a pilot and then questioned me about my history knowledge and I surrendered. We had a wonderful laugh and he knew that he had touch me in a profound way and that I respected him for showing me the true meaning of unconditional love.
